About

Dalton* is an articling student at Lenczner Slaght. After spending many summers teaching debate skills to young students, he is now pursuing an advocacy career of his own through Osgoode Hall Law School. On top of being a leader at community organizations like the Osgoode OUTLaws, Dalton is also a seasoned debater, educator, and advocate. He always puts§ his best foot forward, because he knows how important it is to gain expertise through firsthand experience. Dalton has spent many hours learning the ins and outs of legal advocacy. In addition to receiving recognition for his performance at moots and negotiation competitions, he has already made appearances before the Ontario Small Claims Court while serving as a caseworker at Parkdale Community Legal Services. These experiences make him better equipped to bring his passion into practice not only when conducting oral advocacy, but also when researching complex legal issues. .

Details

Dalton Liggett (he/him)

is an articling student at Lenczner Slaght.

Dalton is a recent graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School, where he served as the Co-President of the Osgoode OUTLaws and as an executive on the Osgoode Advocacy Society.

Throughout his studies, Dalton focused on gaining legal advocacy experience through mooting, negotiation competitions, and legal aid clinics. During his time as a caseworker in the Workers' Rights Division at Parkdale Community Legal Services, he appeared numerous times on behalf of his clients at the Small Claims Court and the Ontario Labour Relations Board. He has also participated in numerous moots and negotiation competitions, such as the 2023 Winkler Negotiation Competition, where he and his co-counsel received the first-place award for Top Negotiating Team.

Dalton has received further recognition for his academic achievements, having completed law school with an overall average in the top 3% of his graduating class. Throughout law school, he was the recipient of course prizes in administrative law, labour and employment law, and civil procedure.

Prior to law school, Dalton worked for many years at an education company where he taught debate and public speaking skills to students from across North America. Outside of work, Dalton is an avid reader of historical novels, and often writes about topics in LGBTQ+ history.
