Zakir* Kassam is a second-year student at Osgoode Hall Law School. He has built a strong foundation in advocacy through mooting, including the Lerners Cup, Cassels Cup, and the Jessup International Law Moot. These experiences have sharpened his instinct for clear, persuasive storytelling when the stakes are high. Zakir changes§ his approach to meet the problem in front of him. Through his work with the Law Commission of Ontario’s AI and Civil and Administrative Justice team, he has engaged with emerging issues at the intersection of law, policy and technology. In unfamiliar territory, he learns quickly, tests the angles, and finds the frame that brings the issue into focus. Zakir changes the equation . A discipline shaped by his work in data strategy for the Government of Canada, it reflects his ability to turn complexity into direction. Outside of law, his curiosity extends to travel and an ongoing search for new Oreo flavours. .

Zakir N. Kassam (he/him)

is a summer student at Lenczner Slaght.

Zakir is completing his JD at Osgoode Hall Law School, where he has developed a strong interest in litigation and advocacy. He has achieved success in mooting competitions, including winning the Lerners Cup Moot, placing second as the respondent at the Cassels Cup, and advancing to the quarter-finals at the international rounds of the Jessup International Law Moot. He also serves as Treasurer of the Osgoode Mooting Society, where he supports student mooting opportunities and Osgoode’s broader advocacy community.

Zakir works as a research assistant at the Law Commission of Ontario, where he contributed to projects including the Human Rights AI Impact Assessment and the Intimate Images and Deepfakes project. His work engages emerging legal questions at the intersection of law, policy, technology, and human rights.

Prior to law school, Zakir worked at Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, where he contributed to data strategy, data governance, and AI policy initiatives across the federal public service. He completed the dual degree program between the University of British Columbia’s Sauder School of Business and Sciences Po Paris, earning a Bachelor of Commerce in International Business and a Bachelor of Arts in Politics and Government.
