Lexpert recognizes Rebecca Jones as a Rising Star for 2015

Rebecca Jones recognized as leading lawyer under 40

Lenczner Slaght's Rebecca Jones was named a Rising Star by Lexpert which was celebrated last night at a Gala awards event at the Royal York Fairmont Hotel. This honour is conferred on lawyers under the age 40 who have an outstanding track record of success in complex matters, are leaders in the community, and contributors to the success of their firm.

Since her call to the Bar in 2003, Rebecca has been counsel in many of the firm's most complex and high-profile cases.  Rebecca handles cases across many practice areas, including professional negligence, administrative law and commercial litigation.  In each of those areas, and for each client, she becomes an expert in the legal and regulatory framework pertaining to the client's business.

Rebecca chairs the firm's Pro Bono Committee.  She spearheaded the initiative between Lenczner Slaght and the Refugee Law Office ("RLO"), a Legal Aid Ontario office dedicated to the assistance of refugees.  Our lawyers appear on emergency stay applications, when RLO clients are facing imminent deportation orders.  "Rebecca played a central role in forging the ground-breaking relationship between her firm's pro bono program and Legal Aid Ontario's Refugee Law Office, whereby Rebecca and her colleagues act as pro bono counsel on emergency injunctions to prevent the deportation of vulnerable non-citizens," explained Andrew Brouwer, Senior Counsel, Refugee Law for Legal Aid Ontario.  "Rebecca's passion, vision and leadership were key to making this happen, and helped save numerous families and individuals from irreparable harm in their countries of origin."

As co-Chair of our Student Program, Rebecca is responsible for the recruitment, training and mentorship of students.  Throughout her career, she has acted as a formal and informal mentor for students and associates.  "While working with Rebecca on lengthy discoveries, I found her generous to provide helpful tips to do my best, explained Julia Lefebvre, a former associate at the firm.  "A natural mentor, she encourages those around her to become better lawyers through her kindness and by example.  Rebecca is also a bridge builder fostering positive relationships with assistants, students, associates and partners. When an urgent matter arises, she jumps into action to lead a team in response.  She always has the trust of those around her, at all levels. This translates into excellent results for the client."

"Clients expect their lawyers to make good judgments and quick decisions in a business context," said Lenczner Slaght's managing partner Peter Griffin. "Rebecca is laser-focused on understanding the legal problem that her clients face and working quickly to solve it, something her clients quickly come to appreciate.  I have worked extensively with Rebecca. She listens to her clients, formulates a solution to their problem and communicates her plan. She is calm, efficient and effective - just what business leaders want."
