KATE MCGRANN is an associate at Lenczner Slaght.

She holds an Hons. BSc. in biochemistry from McMaster University and a J.D. from the University of Toronto.   Prior to joining Lenczner Slaght, Kate summered and articled at a prominent boutique firm. She was called to the Ontario Bar and successfully sat for the New York State Bar Examination in 2008.

During her studies at the University of Toronto, Kate was involved in a number of student initiatives. She was elected to serve on the student executive of Downtown Legal Services, the school’s legal aid clinic, where she also acted as a volunteer caseworker, shift leader, and oversaw a satellite clinic operating out of a resource centre for street-involved youth.

Kate was awarded the JD Tory Fellowship by the University of Toronto Faculty of Law Review for her paper entitled “Aboriginal Cultural Heritage: The Birth of the Founding First Nations Circle in Ontario”. She also co-chaired the Faculty of Law Orientation Committee and starred as Captain Jack Sparrow in the production "Lawyers of the Caribbean".

While at McMaster, Kate co-authored Sampling the Antibiotic Resistome, which was published in the journal Science and named by NSERC as one of the top 50 scientific discoveries of 2007.

At Lenczner Slaght Kate enjoys a general civil litigation practice with a special interest and focus on intellectual property.

She is a member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada and the Advocates’ Society.
