REBECCA JONES is an associate at Lenczner Slaght. 

Rebecca has a B.A. (Joint Honours) in Political Science and History from McGill University and an LL.B. (Honours Standing) from the Faculty of Law at the University of Toronto.  She articled at Lenczner Slaght and was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 2003.

Rebecca’s civil litigation practice encompasses a wide range of practice areas, with a particular focus on commercial and administrative litigation.  She has appeared before all levels of Court in Ontario, and was co-counsel in a case that was argued before the Supreme Court of Canada.  Rebecca has also been counsel in private arbitrations involving complex commercial disputes, and has been involved in numerous cases involving constitutional issues.   

Rebecca has an extensive professional liability practice, which involves providing advice to health professionals and representing such professionals before their administrative tribunals and before the Ontario Courts.   She also acts as a prosecutor for the College of Nurses of Ontario.

Law Society of Upper Canada v. Canada (Attorney General) (2008), 89 O.R. (3d) 209 (S.C.J.) – successful application (in part) on behalf of the Law Society of Upper Canada to obtain wiretap evidence in the possession of the R.C.M.P. 

Skufca Estate v. Varga, [2007] O.J. No. 2465 (S.C.J.) – lead counsel on summary judgment motion on behalf of a physician in a medical negligence action.

Walker v. Ritchie, [2006] 2 S.C.R. 428 – appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada on the issue of cost premiums.

B. (C.) v. Sawadsky (2006), 82 O.R. (3d) 661 (C.A.) – successful defence at trial, upheld on appeal by the Court of Appeal, of an emergency physician in a medical negligence action involving the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the Mental Health Act.

TELUS Communications Inc. v. Cherubin, [2005] O.J. No. 5534 (S.C.J.) – successful defence of a contempt motion.

407 ETR Concession Co. v. Ontario (Registrar of Motor Vehicles) (2005), 82 O.R. (3d) 703 (Div. Crt.) – successful application for judicial review in which the Divisional Court ordered the Registrar of Motor Vehicles to comply with the Highway 407 Act

407 ETR Concession Co. v. Ontario (Registrar of Motor Vehicles), [2005] O.J. No. 2999 (Div. Crt.) - successful motion (in part) to compel answers to questions asked on an examination.

1193430 Ontario Inc. v. Boa-Franc Inc. (2005), 78 O.R. (3d) 81 (C.A.) -  trial and successful appeal of a contractual dispute involving the termination of a distributorship agreement.

Allen v. Morrison, [2004] O.J. No. 5222 (S.C.J.);  [2006] O.J. No. 947 (S.C.J.) – lead counsel on successful motion on behalf of physicians to strike out the plaintiff’s Statement of Claim in a medical negligence action involving the duty of confidentiality.

Century Services Inc. v. Atelier America Inc., [2003] O.J. No. 4998 (S.C.J.) – successful motion on behalf of a tenant for a declaration involving a dispute over a deposit and occupation rent.
