KRIS BORG-OLIVIER is an associate at Lenczner Slaght.

Kris holds a B.A. in Political Science (First Class Honours) from McGill University, and graduated from Harvard Law School with a J.D. in 2000, where he taught Legal Reasoning and Argument to first-year law students. While completing his legal studies, Kris interned with the Committee on the Administration of Justice in Belfast. Kris was admitted to the New York bar in 2001 and the Ontario bar in 2006.

Prior to joining Lenczner Slaght in 2005, Kris practised in the litigation department of Debevoise & Plimpton LLP in New York City, where he appeared before the New York State Supreme Court, federal district court, and the United States Court of Appeal for the Second Circuit in connection with a variety of civil and criminal matters.

Kris's practice at Lenczner Slaght encompasses varied commercial litigation, class actions, professional liability and medical malpractice, and administrative law. He has also been involved in complex commercial arbitrations.

Kris is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the Advocates' Society.

CASES

A representative list of Kris’s cases follows:

Manulife Securities International Ltd. v. Société Générale et al. (2008 – various) – on team of counsel to Société Générale in $1.6 billion class action brought by Manulife Securities.

In the Matter of Charges against JDB et al. – (February 11, 2007) longest disciplinary proceeding in history of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario, followed by an appeal before the Appeal Committee of the ICAO.

In the Matter of Charges against GMS – defence of disciplinary proceeding in respect of accountant before the ICAO.

Belisle v. Belisle Trac Sales et al. (August 2008) - successful motion for enforcement of an arbitration clause in connection with shareholder oppression matter.

Johnson & Johnson v. Butt et al. [2007] O.J. No. 4655 - motion for declaration that New York court order was of no force and effect in Ontario.
