RYAN STEWART BREEDON is an associate at Lenczner Slaght. 

Ryan's wide-ranging practice includes professional responsibility disputes, commercial litigation, securities litigation, employment disputes, environmental litigation and criminal law.  He has also published articles in a variety of areas, including insurance law and class action disputes.

Ryan has appeared as lead counsel in both the Court of Appeal for Ontario and the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.  He has conducted a number of private arbitrations involving significant commercial matters.  He regularly represents clients in criminal matters before the Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Justice.  Additionally, he has appeared before a number of administrative tribunals, including the Discipline Committee of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, the Discipline Committee of the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario, and the Mining and Lands Commissioner of Ontario.  He regularly acts in construction, employment, insurance and defamation matters. 

Ryan holds a B.A. in Philosophy from York University, an M.A. in Philosophy from the University of Toronto, and an LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School.  He articled at Lenczner Slaght and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2004.  Ryan teaches Trial Advocacy at Osgoode Hall Law School.

Ryan is also a mediocre bass player and a slow marathon runner.  He is an amateur filmmaker and a proud member of the Fatboys Running Club.

Barkacin v. Wasiak, [2009] O.J. No. 4793 (C.A.) - lead counsel in an appeal concerning the division of proceeds of a lottery ticket.

Tang v. Jarrett (2009), 251 O.A.C. 123 (Div. Ct.) - lead counsel for the successful respondent in an appeal concerning a contract for professional services.

Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario v. D.H. (2009) - lead counsel in defence of an engineer alleged to have committed professional misconduct and to have been incompetent.

Rollin v. Baker, [2009] O.J. No. 225 (S.C.J.) - lead counsel at trial in defence of a general surgeon in a medical negligence action.

Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario v. P.L. (2008) - lead counsel in successful defence of an engineer alleged to have committed professional misconduct and to have been incompetent.

R. v. Gasparetto,
[2008] O.J. No. 3840 (S.C.J.) - lead counsel in defence of an accused charged with several counts of fraud in a criminal proceeding.

Law Society of Upper Canada v. Neinstein, [2008] O.J. No. 3731 (Div. Ct.), [2007] O.J. No. 958 (Div. Ct.) - successful appeal of an administrative decision for the Law Society of Upper Canada.

Geddes v. Bloom, [2008] O.J. No. 3458 (S.C.J.) - lead counsel at trial in successful defence of a radiologist in a medical negligence action.

Heintzman v. Poole, [2008] O.J. No. 2948 (S.C.J.) - lead counsel at trial in successful claim enforcing a right of first refusal over an island in Georgian Bay. 

R.S.T. (Re), [2007] O.C.P.S.D. No. 33 (Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons Discipline Committee) - successful defence of a physician accused of sexual abuse. 

Franklin (Re), [2007] O.C.P.S.D. No. 14, [2007] O.C.P.S.D. No. 20, [2007] O.C.P.S.D. No. 29 (Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons Discipline Committee) - defence of a physician alleged to have committed professional misconduct and to have been incompetent.

407 ETR Concession Ltd. v. Min, [2007] O.J. No. 1086 (S.C.J.) -  successful motion to set aside a default judgment for punitive damages.

Commercial Alcohols Inc. v. Bruce Power, [2006] O.J. No. 3637 (C.A.), [2006] O.J. No. 322 (S.C.J.) - trial of a contractual dispute involving the supply of steam.

McArthur v. Kaal (2006), 30 C.P.C. (6th) 150 - lead counsel representing the proposed defendant in a motion to add a party after the expiry of a limitation period.

Riverside Developments Bobcaygeon Ltd. v. Bobcaygeon (Village), [2005] O.J. No. 3326 (C.A.) - appeal in a construction matter on behalf of the municipality.

R. v. Caruso, [2005] O.J. No. 2461 (C.A.) - lead counsel for an accused in a successful appeal against conviction in a criminal proceeding.
